tracymar > Beverly took an hour ride in this balloon, Serendipity. A hot air balloon consists of the gondola (basket), envelope (made of flame-resistant nylon) and burner system which uses propane cylinders. Above the gondola, the burner heats up the air inside the envelope, so that the hot air balloon can rise up. The burner consumes about 40 liters of propane per hour, which procures about 15 million BTU. The flame produced by the burner can reach a height of 18 feet. I found the release of the fire to be very hot, and backed away at a distance as I was taking this picture.
